Can You Help Your Sinuses By Eating?
Most people don’t spend much of time thinking of the well-being of our sinuses
until something goes wrong and they get clogged. Clogged sinuses can hurt
tremendously and make a tricky cold or flu a lot more excruciating. Most of us
hope to cure our sinuses with medicine or even with steam but the truth is that
the different things we eat can have quite a major effect on the tiny
passageways that run through our faces. So how do you keep your sinuses healthy
by using meals? Keep reading to find out the different affects that foods can
have on your sinus passageways.
When you’ve got sinus troubles you should not drink milk or eat any other types
of dairy products. Dairy products easily induce the creation of mucous and
phlegm. This stuff will make its way into your sinus passageways and also keep
them from draining properly and cause major blockages. These sorts of blockages
can help breed loads of different bacteria that will only help you stay sick.
This is why it is a good idea to cut out dairy products when you experience any
kind of sickness because otherwise you could end up just building up levels of
phlegm and keeping yourself sicker than you need to be.
Some people are convinced that sinus troubles can be helped with the assistance
of some horseradish, wasabi and other spices. While this can undoubtedly help
thin out the mucous within your sinuses, it is additionally likely to give you a
seriously runny nose and other, temporary, relief. If you have problems with
troubles like acid reflux or heartburn, you should stay away from spicy foods
because, in some cases, the regurgitated stomach acid can work its way up into
your throat and cross the barrier into your sinus membranes and cause some
really bad problems for you.
It is not advisable to ingest alcohol when you’re having troubles with your
sinuses. Alcohol dehydrates your body and helps to harden the mucous as well as
phlegm that is all through your body (especially in your sinuses). This makes it
virtually impossible for your sinuses to begin to drain when you’re sick so,
even though you might fall asleep a lot easier when you drink alcohol, you could
just be prolonging the illness that’s making it hard to sleep in the first
place. Tea, however, can be enormously helpful. A cup of hot tea, in addition to
having the steam that will help you break up clogs of mucous inside your
sinuses, usually has other properties that can help you cure your illness though
that really depends on the type of tea you choose to brew.
Stay far from caffeine. You could be tempted to ingest coffee instead of tea or
plain hot water. You shouldn’t do this. Caffeine dehydrates your system much like
alcohol does so that means that while you drink (or eat) it, you will have a
harder time healing your sinuses and the rest of your body too.
You should, of course, speak to your doctor about the things in this article
because everyone reacts differently to things. What is effective for some
probably won’t work for you so if your sinus issues are long lasting you should
definitely talk to your doctor.
